Ellen’s on Front restaurant opens this week in Greenport.
Their menu features a variety of soups and salads, miso-soy marinated spare ribs, duck fried rice, cauliflower steak, fish tacos, burgers, mussels and much more. The ‘Greenport Clam Chowda’ is a cross between traditional red (Manhattan) and white (New England) chowders ($9).
Chef Jennie Werts of Jennie’s at Drossos, and her brother, Andrew Werts, moved into the former Salamander’s space last winter and began renovations. The restaurant is named after their mother, Ellen.
The menu features produce from local farms including Sang Lee and Catapano and offers interesting shared plates, for example crab and avocado toast ($19), and Korean fried duck wings ($15).
Andrew described the menu as “accessible, friendly American Comfort food.” The pair will also continue to run Jennie’s at Drossos on Main Road in Greenport this summer.
